Speak is a really great story. The story is very easy to connect to and is funny at times, although the main subject of the book is not funny at all. The majority of the story circles around a mystery of why the main character has lots her friends and why she won't speak. In a lot of ways, this story is very similar to my favorite Shirley Jackson book, Hangsaman. The most common criticism I have heard of this text is that "everything is okay" by the end. I disagree. I think everything will eventually be okay, but not right at the time the books ends; in other words, the main character has taken the first few steps down the road. Awesome Lifetime movie of this, too.
A photographic journal of the Uris' years in Ireland; beautiful and achingly sad
