I read this my freshmen year of high school. Even though I had read the tragedy Romeo and Juliet the year before, this one was way more dark and that was interesting and fun to read. I think it fit well with my new interest of Stephen King as well. I really enjoyed listening to lecture and discussion about it in class. We focused on the deconstruction of man. It also was a fitting time for me to read it because the I had rather dark and depressing things happening in my social life at the time as well.
I read this as a senior in high school. I had learned about the Holocaust before then, but this was the first book I can remember reading about it. I have since read many other books about the subject and can no longer remember my initial impressions from this book. I did see the Oprah special last year (?) where she and Wiesel went to Auschwitz; that was tremendously interesting and sad.
