Holly and Jeff are so in love that when Holly tells Jeff she's pregnant he avoids her and flirts with other girls and when he does finally talk to her it's to urge her to have an abortion so his life isn't ruined. Holly's mother wants her to get married, and that's what Holly thinks she wants too. Jeff's father wants him to get some of his friends together and claim they slept with her as well so Jeff is off the hook. It's all resolved in 136 pages.
The story of a beautiful girl, who becomes a "Madame", owner of a prestigious modeling agency which is a cover for a prostitution center.
A fascinating early work of psychoanalysis on the divided self, neurosis, and paranoia, written by a man who was himself paranoid, neurotic, and divided. Rank said elsewhere that paranoia was a symptom of latent homosexuality, and of course he was allegedly that, too. I wish I owned a copy (good luck!) because even though it's been ten years or so since I read it, I remember it being engaging, short, and eminently quotable.
I found this very hard to get into, I found the main charectors hard to like. I know it was set in the Victorian era but it must have been hard to live a life like that all buttoned up and repressed. I could not find an endearing thing about Van Tassel. Not her best novel
Great idea -- but do they really expect me to read the dictionary?
