As a fan of Lemony Snicket and Roald Dahl, you should take a look at Philip Ardagh’s Eddie Dickens series, which has the same dark and funny style. This is the first book in the series.

Greatest book in the last 1/2 of the 20th Century. It is easy to misread. You can get caught up in the adventure of fast cars, drinking, drugs, and brothels, and miss the deep sadness of this book. It is joy and pain in one teardrop. It is LIFE. Vital.

It's been years since I have read this, but it is undoubtably a beautiful book and it has stayed in my head all this time. Reading some reviews of it on BN.com is odd because people are saying that it gave them faith and made them believe in something about life after death. I am, always have been and I suspect, always will be an athiest. Reading this book and believing more about the afterlife is as ridiculous as reading... let's say another Book and basing your life on it. All in all, it is a beautiful love story and it will make you cry, and it will be worth it.

I like chicagoland vampire series, but this book is a little disappointment. I hate it that the hero dies. Ethan Sullivan and Merit in the first part has been drawn to each other, and I was hoping that there will be something between them. I'm sorry that Ethan in this part dies, even if it saves lives Merit. Anyway, the novel is lively, Merit is a real brave, outspoken heroine. The plot is lively, and the end was really surprising.
