I loved, loved, loved the premise behind this series of 3 books. I will admit that it took me 25 pages or so for the first story to "hook" me and I had been toying with the idea of not continuing the story before then. The format of the story (its use of font) is a bit different than most books but the use of the differing fonts makes perfect sense and really is designed to help the reader follow the course of events. I can't imagine living in world where the thoughts of living beings is constantly streamed into everyone else's consciousness (how does a person censor their thoughts??) and I certainly would feel outside of "normal flow" if I realized the thoughts of human females were excluded from the stream. The themes of colonization, "might as right", superiority of species and war add tension and a quick pace to the telling of events. I would recommend this book to a students who have developed attention spans, are strong readers and are wanting something in the science fiction genre.
