Maria Monreal Monreal itibaren Balti, Moldova
I'd been meaning to read this book all last year, especially after seeing it everywhere when I visited the US in July and hearing about the movie. It wasn't until some friends from a coffee group (that's a group of mothers with young children who meet regularly) decided to form a book club and read this that I made the time to do it. I'm glad I did. I thought this would be just another book about the extreme difficulties of race relations in the South, and in some ways I was right. This book is so entertaining, though, because of its characters and their desire to do something *different* within the clearly described confines of their society. The book-within-a-book idea was obviously derived in part from the author's own experience, and it worked well here. Stockett's characters are right: there hasn't been much written about being a black Southern maid from the maid's perspective. Go read this yourself and see how enjoyable a story it is.
