A really honest and inside look at what life is like for women under extremist regimes in the Middle East. A little slow at times, and the organization (if I remember correctly)is not so great. The book is divided into parts, each dedicated to one of five controversial books that the author taught in secret to her class, but what she talks about in each section doesn't really relate to the book the way the synopsis describes. Much less about the literature than it promises, but still an interesting political memoir. I remember feeling angry that we could let this go on in countries like Iran simply because they're not worth it to us, while we fight wars in other places (that just so happen to have oil) in order to (supposedly) stop the same behaviors. Of course if I read it again now I would factor in that we may be going to war with Iran...
