** spoiler alert ** This book was ok. I would rate it a 3.5. Serena Boyce and Lucien Clayborne. Serena is married to a much older and impotent man, Lord Warrington who asks her to take on a lover in order for him to have a legitimate heir before he dies, so that his horrible nephew, Alastair will not inherit. Serena loves her husband and considers him her best friend. At his request, she ends up going to Vauxhall with a widowed friend, gets robbed, and ends up getting saved by Lucien, the handsome green eyed man with a shattered knee. They have sex, he realizes that she's a virgin, she leaves before he wakes up. Lucien has been burned before. He had gone through a divorce after his wife had ran off with his good friend, his daughter was killed when she was run over by a carriage after leaving the house in search of her mother. This, he blames himself for. Warrington finds out about Serena's night with him and puts him in his will to watch over her should he get murdered; which he does. Lucien spends a great deal of time trying to find out why exactly Serena was still a virgin and what her purpose was in sleeping with him that one night. Alistair ends up coming after her and trying to kill her but in the end it all works out, of course.
