Even though the main charictor is a total ditz I enjoyed the story and was hardly able to put it down.
I just really like Aimee Bender's style. I definitely had issues with this book -- there's a plot twist 3/4 through that takes a premise with a slight fantasy twist over a line that many readers apparently were completely turned off by. I wasn't as appalled by it as some, though it definitely seemed disproportionately "out there" from the rest of the book. More, though, I felt the last 1/3 of the book felt meandering, and then suddenly rushed at the end, so all those lovely threads that were weaving together in the first half just get jangled a bit by the end. But, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading the whole book, which I credit to Bender's style and characters, and, given the bizarre turn, I think it was quite a feat that the insanely absurd last conversation in the book between Rose and her brother was so heartwrenchingly touching.
