Louie Zamperini's story was heartbreaking and inspiring. I had no idea how horrific the conditions in the Japanese camps were, and that any of our boys survived is a true miracle. My granddad was a WWII veteran and his stoicism and strict work ethic were, I believe, a result of his service. He had a steel rod and plastic joints for the lower half of his right leg, but he worked a twelve hour day, six days a week, and still found time to entertain us grandkids, building us go-carts to ride around in and buying us a pony that he kept in his back yard. I miss him very much, and I feel lucky to have had him in my life. I feel such grief after reading about all the boys who never made it back, especially those who died at the hands of their captors. And I especially feel concern and outrage that our boys today are facing these same crises and not receiving the care and treatments they need. We clearly need to take care of our vets, not just thank them for their service, and give them awards for bravery. Come on, America! What is the matter with our government! Why do we keep re-electing these clowns? Ugh... I can't say anymore.
