Mark Twain is always amusing, but some of his other writing is more interesting to me than Huck Finn.
** spoiler alert ** What a good, yet heartbreaking read! The whole time I was reading this book I thought to myself "Could I do what Carolyn is doing? How on earth would we handle this, if it were to ever happen to us?". I think what the Savages did in this case was very honorable, hard and just plain beautiful. No matter how hard it was on them they gave that little boy life, and then had to do the hardest thing ever and hand him over. My heart just broke reading this book. I felt awful for them. This book grabbed me from the start and I had a hard time putting it down.
An extremely difficult read for me. At times I considered not finishing the book because I was so disturbed. I particularly found the physical abuse of children hard to read about. It was very informative and interesting nonetheless.
