I enjoyed reading this novel. However, a couple things bothered me. First, This isn't a new concept for a story. Integrating fairy tales with escapism is nothing new. And combining it with growth of understanding and ultimately teaching the protagonist maturity and perspective is an age old concept. Second, I'm tired... TIRED... of the whiney, self important, dramatic, Teen agnst portrayal of children. I feel authors really over do these qualities. And particularly in this story... It was overemphasized. Third, Predictable. The whole story was ridiculously predictable. Fourth, The woodsman... Father figure... maybe a reference or suggestion of religious implications here. Groan! I'll read the chronicles of narnia if I want to revisit this kind of story line again. Anyways, I gave it 3 stars.. mainly because it was an enjoyable read. Good imagery, good twist on tales, Snow white and the dwarves was funny, and the story didn't lose my interest because of the aforementioned problems.
