This is probably my favorite Anne Tyler book. Parts of it are funny, but it really ends up feeling so melancholy. I love the part when Justine is telling the story of her crazy cousin to her carnival owner friend. Happy and sad, funny and frustrating. Disappointments occur throughout, just like life.
HOW DOES IT END? No seriously, the end of the book is lame. EDIT: High-school-me was upset that the ending was ambiguous and threw all that preceded into a strange light. I've kind of grown to appreciate it, though.
