A great little book for ready-for-chapter-book readers! Told in King's "voice," The Case of the Lost Boy starts with King in the pound, hoping his owners (who have mysteriously failed to return home from a trip) will come for him. King is adopted by a mom for her son Connor, who is NOT happy to have moved away from his home and friends after his parents' divorce. When Connor goes missing while on a walk with Buddy (King's new name), Buddy is determined to do all he can to help find the boy. This one does not solve the overarching mystery (where are BUDDY'S people?!) but has a nice, completed story arc in the meantime. Buddy is thoroughly likable, the characters are believable, and the plot line is clear-- an excellent start to the series!
