Plascencia sets up a hypnotic rhythm of point-of-view changes in a matter-of-fact atmosphere of the magical and meta--the author is an acknowledged presence in the book, and some of the characters declare war on him, with interesting effects in and out of the central narrative. It's nearly as compelling to watch the rhythm falter and self-destruct as it is to see it established.
Pretty good. Of course, it preached to the choir in my case. Entertaining and well laid out none the less
