This was my favorite book in high school. A Prayer for Owen Meany follows the coming of age of two characters, John and Owen. This is one of those books that painstakingly creates an entire universe, with a vivid setting, and countless characters and smaller stories. I developed a genuine concern for the two main characters, their family, and the small town in New Hampshire they inhabit. It reads quickly too.
