lovely and sad. though, the end is a little suspiciously fascist in its political implications: because all things must pass, cling to tradition, nobility, catholicism and heterosexuality? still & all, an enchanting book. -- On second reading this is even more beautiful and more devastatingly sad. Though, being Waugh, it contains a number of laugh-out-loud moments and rarely ceases being funny even in the most elegiac moments. This has to be one of the most wonderfully written books in the english language.
