Piper is one of the most unsuspecting, brave, determined, strong little heroines I've ever read. Her new friends are a different breed of superhero. Forester tells their stories well and manages to provide a good mixture of little badass with a big heart. I was sorry to see the book end and hope hope hope there's another book.
I should reread this and The Virgin Suicides this year. Eugenides is just one of the most accomplished novelists out there. I think it's easy to overlook just how experimental he is: both of his books are case studies in balancing impossible narrative voices farther and with great skill.

An interesting combination. Part Heroes, a bit of The Mysterious Benedict Society, and the most irrepressible heroine to fly out of the pages of a book. I want to be like Piper McCloud! Nominated for the Sakura medal 2011.
