One does not have to gauge in deep thought to get the premise of this book which is coincidences in our lives are shaped by a higher power. The author shares stories from all facets of life such as death, work, family, relationships, etc. that illustrate these coincidences, or God Winks. I actually found myself skimming through some of them because his point became redundant...which is why I didn't give this book a higher rating. He does offer some good self reflection exercises throughout various chapters.
Great read. Entertaining to the last page. A little rock history, pop culture, metaphorical references that seemed to be calling my name... and every guy I know!
There's no more endearing character than Tiny Cooper, the secret star of this book. I liked both Will Graysons, but Tiny Cooper goes down as one of the greatest wacky-best-friend-with-a-heart-of-gold characters of all time. If you're already a fan of John Green or David Levithan's work, you won't be disappointed. And if you're looking for a sincere YA book with not just one, but two, well rounded male protagonists, then this novel will satisfy you deeply.
HO-LY CRAP!! Let me just pick my jaw up off the floor and see if I can begin to write a spoiler-free review of the astounding book! As usual with Cassie Clare’s books, I feel like I have been beaten up emotionally and psychologically after reading it. Her books make you feel like you’ve been set aflame with desire then thrown off a steep cliff hitting every rock & branch on the way down, then as you feel like you’re about to slam face-first into the asphalt, you get that tiny sliver of sunshine to hold on to. And that’s putting it mildly. I actually was afraid Jace might not have as much face-time in this book, but I should’ve known better – Jace would never allow that! There was plenty of swooning and melting to be done. And Sebastian, I actually starting to find myself wondering if maybe he wasn’t all bad after all. (I’m not gonna tell you whether I found out or not) Clary is growing stronger & starting to act & feel like the Shadowhunter she was meant to be and she is remains just as stubborn as ever- which is one of the things I love about her. All the other characters & relationships in the story are equally frustrating and amazing. But no matter how much emotional turmoil this book caused me, I still thoroughly love being immersed in the world of Shadowhunters & Downworlders.
