Nightwood is a very complex story. Robin Vote is the main character, yet she is hardly seen and she rarely speaks. The focus is on how she touches the lives of people she is intimate with, from her husband to her lovers. It is tragic, because each character is overwhelmed with emotional attachment to Robin yet Robin herself appears to have no idea of the effect she has on others. The prose is a bit difficult to get through at times, so some passages may require close re-reading, but the dramatic end is well worth the read.
