This is one of the few books that I have been able to finish during the school year. That being said its an amazing story full of drama and insightful thoughts about addiction and life

Every Margaret Atwood novel I read gives me the most vivid and realistic nightmares of my life for weeks on end. I think that's part of how I know this is good. Sure, it's well-paced, and the plot goes somewhere once you get set in, but man the CONCEPTS! Daniel calls Atwood a science fiction author, and I think he's absolutely right. So blatantly fictional yet so realistic because it all seems totally possible. Within our lifetime! It's like she cued Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin, gave them some real power, and ran with it. That's more disturbing to me than the collection of H.P. Lovecraft short stories (which, as it happens, do not give me nightmares) I'm reading currently. Without any element of fantasy, playing pretend, and the idea that one day we'll wake up from this, I can't distance myself from the version of the world she creates. Brilliant.
