I felt compelled to write a more detailed review of this book, because I have such mixed feelings about it. There is some beautiful writing, although several descriptive lines where I'd re-read and just say, "huh"? What does he MEAN by that? I found the first half of the book more enjoyable than the last half, and I didn't find the ending satisfying. On the inside jacket cover, it says the book is "multilayered" - probably a little too multilayered for me, hence the two (and a half) stars.
I am proud to say that this supremely intelligent man is MY Professor.

This is one of my favorite Science Fiction books. The near future world Stephenson weaves is scathing in its critique of contemporary corporate capitalism. But the book isn't all politics; Snow Crash is a fast paced adventure story. And the main character's name is Hiro Protagonist. Who could possibly say no?
Gripping tale of post-flu pandemic America through the eyes of an orphaned boy adopted by an evangelical family.
Did not find compelling enough to read the sequels.
