This book is very comprehensive and well-organized on the world of islamic art--an often very-little studied area in the art world. I read it after hearing a series of Hildebrand's lectures in an art history class at the University of Edinburgh. This man is an amazing speaker and so passionate and extremely knowledgeable about what he does.

It's a quick, fun suspense story that's funny without being hilarious and not suspenseful enough to get your heart racing. It's pretty typical Hiaasen -- a large cast of characters and absurd situations and definitely an enjoyable read, but the thing with Hiaasen is that he seems concerned sometimes with making sure everything seems realistic and doesn't always follow through with the joke or take a humorous situation to the point of really being hilarious.

The idea behind this book is fantastic. I'm sure every girl (and guy) would want their favorite character from their favorite book that they are in love with to actually become real and have the chance to meet, talk, flirt and eventually fall in love with the real them and not just the book them. The actual book itself and the writing is slightly poor. I think my problem was that I wanted to experience it as if I was like Amy and had fallen in love with Alex and the books that he is in instead of it being a book about a girl who falls in love with a boy in a book that only the characters in the book know anything about. If I had been able to read the books that Alex was first in and then had a book written about him being real I would have liked that a lot better.
