I liked the premise, but it didn't really come together very well. The dialogue is unnatural and the message is a little heavy-handed. Still can be an enjoyable read for someone looking for an entertaining Christian novel.
Overall an uneven read, I kept wondering if I was just distracted but even when I was reading quite a bit at once it was choppy. There were some funny parts but the review I'd read that convinced me to read it described it as a hoot hence that's what I expected. Perhaps it needed a heavier handed editor.
I have watched a play of this story of saramago! ;)
This is a wonderful story and I'd recommend it to about anyone. I can't figure out how to describe this story of her life, except that she learns a lot about herself as she searches for her husband.
I liked many things about this book, but there are several majors points I disagree with. I would recommend reading it in a studygroup of married couples or married girlfriends to discuss some of the thoughts he is a proponent of that don't have scriptural backing.
