i was enchanted by this book, it is one of those books that when re-reading it, it brings back the smells of the previouse summer and the sound of the wind through the trees from the last time i read it.
Was an 18 year old stoner when I first read this book and I thought it was amazing. Lots of sex and war and rebellion. Upon second reading, the book didn't hold up for me. Five years and a college education later I think Marquez embraces melodrama too heartily and so, despite the motley assortment of characters and dramatic pratfalls that fill the pages, the book ultimately comes up empty handed. There is beautiful imagery to be found, but no great truth.
