I loved this book. It follows the story of Caliban from Shakespeare's Tempest as he sneaks into Miranda's room and gives her his version of what happened to him. I would love to read it again, but I loaned it to my college Shakespeare professor and she never returned it. :)
A good airplane or beach book. It started to disappoint after about 200 pages, but I kept reading because there's nothing worth watching on TV and I can still breeze through this after a few drinks and when my eyes are tired from reading law all day. Not very well written, but like a TV show, I'll glance at it enough at night to kill time. If you've read enough Follett, you will recognize the same themes here: women are smart but aren't all that appreciated (there's a new idea); class hierarchy; and war as the dominant catalyst because the writer is too busy cranking out a series of 800 page beach reads to develop his characters. I guess if you've already made your reputation and money, and people are going to keep buying your work anyways, why not mail it in?
