Seriously...this book just about killed me! Between the rambling and unlikable characters I seriously wanted to cry. Not a favorite, clearly!

A gentle read
This was a pretty good series albeit a little long for me. I loved the story (and so did my 8 year old), but there were moments (several of them actually) where I was getting so bored by all the "talking" as my son describes it. The dialogue seemed so heavy at times and I think there was probably a better way for the author to fill in some of the gaps other than basically telling us what's happening by having the characters talk it out. We listened to this whole series on CD (we didn't actually read it) and maybe that had something to do with it. I was never wild about the reader's voice and there seemed to be several times where I was losing interest and talking to the author in my head telling him to get on with it already. I'd have to say the 4th book in this series was my favorite and tends to be what I remember the most of, even though we just listened to the 5th and final book. There was a lot to get lost in in the 5th book and I'm still confused as to what happened to some of the characters. I will say this, Brandon Mull has a new series coming out, "The Beyonders", and we will most likely be listening to that one as well.
this book is fabulous.
