I can definitely see why this appeals so much to middle schoolers. If I were still in middle school, I would have probably devoured this series. It reminds me a bit of Diane Duane's Young Wizards series in feel, and I loved that series at that age. I enjoyed it, it was fast paced and fun, and I plan to continue listening to the rest of the series, but I don't think it grabbed me quite the way it would have if I were younger. Note: I listened to the audiobook version
