It had been a while since I read "Poison Study", the first book in this trilogy and my knowledge of Yelena and her history was a wee bit rusty. However, I remembered enough to get into the story. Yelena is just a little bit too perfect for my liking. Everyone who doesn't like her is evil. She's the most super powerful magic user ever, with amazingly special abilities. She outwits anyone who tries to oppose her. It's difficult to get into a book when you're rolling your eyes at the main character much of the time. This in addition to my vague recollection of Yelena's history meant this was a two star read - mediocre fantasy with a side serve of romance.
