I had never heard of this book until my first observation experience for teaching. I observed another teacher who was teaching it and decided that maybe I should read it some time. I didn't like it all that much though. I just didn't connect with the main character and his feelings about shaking the branch. I then wasn't really into all the training they did later to make up for it. I guess it was an case of me just not totally getting their relationship. I might have liked it more if I read it in a class where I got to hear other's ideas as I went.
This was okay. Again, these are the early stories that Middle-earth grew out of. They're interesting to read from that point of view, but on their own, I didn't find them particularly engaging.
