I had read this about four years ago, and I gotta say it wasn't as great. I though the relationship between Marpessa and Alastor could have been further developed, as well Xanthe's final fate. The war part was very realistic and sad to see how wars separate people and bring forth harsh feelings. I liked the cameos from the gods, since I adore Greek mythology, although I would have liked a little bit more love than war. It was nice to see the Trojan War from the Trojans' POV, versus the Greeks'POV. The character of Helen was very interesting, especially seeing her selfish side and her selfless side; although when only concerning her daughter and Marpessa. I didn't really like Helen, and I felt extreme empathy for Andromache. Overall, it was nice to dwell into the past and could have been, something to escape into, which is what readers search for...
My love of the main character, Charlotte, makes it impossible for me to give this book anything but 5 stars. Charlotte is the perfect character for those who were always a little different, but not quite nerdy, or dumb. Sometimes weird things just... happen. Charlotte is a delight to follow on her zany adventures. (I can't believe I used the word zany). A book I'll be keeping, and bringing into my classroom.
