I read this shortly after my first child was born, and aside from the resulting c-section that Wolfe describes, it could have been me. And I know I'm not the only one who harbors these disenchanted feelings toward the increasing medicalization (is that a word??) and pathologization of pregnancy and childbirth.
At first I couldn't get into to dirty game. In the beginning it was just like any other book that I read before. After giving it another try I learned that this book was unique in its own way. It showed lesson after lesson, and several struggles in life that people have to deal with. Destiny had to deal with growing up without her mother, losing her father, a friend and her baby boy who she named after her deceased father. She couldn't find a real job so she decided to make money in an illegal way, all throughout her life. Destiny hustled in many different ways, until one day she got caught, and at the time she was a few months pregnant. Being sent to jail, made her realize that she had to do what was right for her baby. She wanted to give her unbron child the life she nver had. After being released from jail she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The the day came when he passed away. Soon after Destiny's baby died she moved away and left everyone without a trace, while on a mission to figure out what her purpose to live for was.
