I thought that this book was a solid adventure novel even though it was written in 1819. Scott paints a dynamic picture of the tensions betweens the Saxons and the Normans of the 12th Century. There are a lot of hidden identities, and like an opera or ballet, the book requires you to take a leap of faith that the person in disguise would not be recognized! This is a fast moving and exciting thriller--yes I might even use that word for a classic.

Dari apa yang saya baca, saya bisa merasakan kejeniusan dari seorang Musashi. Pemikirannya tentang hidup, alam semesta, struktur sosial dalam masyarakat, psikologi, dan pendidikan... sudah sangat jauh melampaui manusia-manusia pada jamannya. It is frustrating, confusing, very lonely, certainly frightening, and it will sometimes make you think you do not have much sanity left to deal with the every-day surroundings of your world. It (way of samurai) must all come from inside you without any preconceived notions on your part.
