I was curious to read a Russian popular classic. The book was full of satyr and slap-stick comedy. My Russian co-worker was amazed that I could find it funny because she thought I'd have to understand the cultural references. I'm not sure I understood all of them and it was an amazing trip through early Communism in that country, and yet I felt as if I was watching a really good, slap-stick comedy in my head as I read. My friend says it was made into a movie in the 1950s... would be fun to watch, although she was amazed I found a copy of the book so it probably isn't easy to get a copy of the movie (this is the YouTube age so maybe I'll get lucky). I filed this under comedy because it was funny, but the ending was a tragedy, which I think you can see coming but the extent of the tragedy was something I was not prepared for.
she's nothing like me but i connect with the main character, not perfect but strong. also like the tenant quite the odd ball.
Near future science fiction in which the world has been overrun with designer DNA products. A modern (or future) day tale reflecting runaway science a la Frankenstein or the Lost World albeit with its own twists. Interesting to see some of the intertwined stories woven together throughout the book. I'd highly recommend the book if you're at all intrigued with the subject or theme.
I am glad I read this book, but it was not easy.
This is a VERY challenging word puzzle book. Patrick Berry is an amazing puzzle writer. I bought a copy for my dad, who didn't want to write in so pretty a book, so made copies of the puzzles so he could keep the book clean.
