The Islamist follows Ed Husain's journey as a teen and a twenty-something seeking to find the true calling of his religion. He travels from London to Syria and Saudi Arabia learning Arabic and trying to discover how to interpret the Koran and Mohamed's teachings. He presents to us an image of a religion in disarray, especially in Britain. Numerous quarreling factions, branches that have more interest in politicization than religion and Muslim leaders who (he believes) have strayed from the core principles of what it means to be a Muslim. It's a very interesting read and I recommend it to anyone who would have interest in learning about Islamic society today.
