Double Dutch deals with themes like friendship, trust, bullying, teamwork, relationships, family, and learning disabilities within the setting of an urban Middle School. Although the book is, in my opinion, too predictable and wraps up too neatly for adult audiences, the book does grapple with violence, fear, gangs, and bullying at school in a very positive way.
