Read with Tim. Saw the movie with Megan Follows first. The character Anne is enchanting. There are passages of description that you know were written with Montgomery sitting in front of that exact location. Her love for her island is on full display here. The last three chapters seemed rushed with several jumps in time that are jarring to the reader. The insertion of the shock of the bank collapse is unnecessary and feels forced, as if Montgomery was grasping at a way to kill Matthew off (I would label it a spoiler if the chapter didn't include the word 'reaper'). However, the description of Anne's sorrow was especially candid. Knowing Anne as a child makes me wonder at her as an adult. Can Montgomery keep her fresh through all of the years?
