I've read the two different persian translations of this book. I live with this book. It's amazing..
I love Saramago´s style. So I enjoyed all of his books.
I wouldn't say this is as remarkable a love story as Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice, but it bears some similarties. So if you enjoy romantic, period pieces set in England you'll probably find this a good read. I found some of the love story down right disturbing when I read it, but perhaps I should re-read it now that I've experience love and loss.
This one was disappointing. On their way home, Laura, Keir and Keir's war-force encounter a village that has been decimated by plague. The illness soon spreads through the warrior ranks and Laura, as the only real healer amongst them, has to figure out a way to combat it. It may sound good, but there wasn't much time for Laura and Keir to be together in all of this. It was very much the middle book of the series; not much resolved, lots of new problems introduced, and not too many really memorable scenes. I am hoping that the next book will have more punch.
