This book is just great. The setting is in the pre-history of Steven's Taltos series, but the book is best described as a fantasy Dumas novel. It envokes the musketeers, but adds magic and sorcery. The book has incredibly flowery language and is a wordsmith's dream. If all of the flowery-ness were taken out the 500+ page book would probably be about 200 pages.
is there something i'm missing here? more fantasies about disaffected pretty gay boys doing drugs and having sex to cartoonish degrees. when i say that i mean EVERY character is gay, EVERY character does drugs, and EVERY character thinks about nothing but sex. CONSTANTLY. i don't get it. to me these characters are unrealistic and unrelatable. this book is better than Guide and i should say that Cooper is not without flair. he has a knack for cadence and pace and his imagery is rather vivid. he also has enough sense to keep the book under 150 pages, making the thing just shy of barely bearable. 0 for 2 Mr. Cooper.
This is my absolute favorite of the Harry Potter books. I've probably read it 20 times. :-) (I know I'm an enormous dork, thanks.)
