This book is about girls in gangs. Gini does not present these girls as "girls gone astray" as the media may represent - but girls who keep up, and sometimes go further, than their male counterparts. May pull into question your thoughts on girls and aggression. For some of us, it's preaching to the choir.
Any mental health issue will be hard to tackle as a subject in a story. It was handled very well here, but the overall effect on me was disappointment. I felt there was a lack of focus.
You know how it is when an author tries to be too cute and goes overboard on the humor, but the jokes aren't funny? That's how this book read. It was way over the top and I didn't like the characters.
