In Simone Elkeles's 2nd book surrounding the Fuentes characters (the first being Perfect Chemistry, Alex's book), we get Carlos's story. Carlos is forced to leave his ma and his little brother Luis in Mexico and comes to live in Colorado, where his older brother Alex is living, only to get in trouble almost immediately. The court orders him to live with the family of Alex's former professor. This is where Carlos meets Kiara. And, that's about where the two books differ... Actually, the story line is different between the two books, but, all-in-all, the formula is the same. Bad boy, Mexican, gang banger meets good, white girl and as much as he tries not to, falls in love with good girl. Good girl also falls for bad boy. Drugs, sex and violence surround them, but can't stop their insta-love. Don't get me wrong here, I enjoyed the book. Elkeles knows how to write from a male perspective, as well as from female perspective,, and she can't write *hot* scenes (which I rather enjoy ;) but the formulaic sameness of these two books makes me hesitant to read the third in the series about the last brother, Luis.
