All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again. One of my favorite themes for dramatic storytelling, and this tome pulls it off wonderfully. The good guys aren't saints and the bad guys have redeeming qualities. There's a lot to take in about this book and others have said it better than I. This spoiler-filled review is one I particularly agree with. But overall, there's rewarding depth and symbolism for the reader who manages to stick with the slow first half of the book.
