It is very very rare that i don't finish a book, and after 420 pages out of the 650, i finally decided to put this book where it belongs...in the bin. Had high hopes for this book and after reading the blurb on the back, it promised to be a story of wonderful characters, gifted with wonderful and magical powers. The promise of this magic - something which could have been this books saving grace was merely skimmed over and it seemed the author just liked the sound of his own voice. A lot of cultural terms and political history made up the majority of the book - mostly confusing and completely unnecessary - to the point where there didn't actually seem to be a plot or even a character which was interesting. Waste of time...and i find this even more disappointing after all the hype this book was given. Can't help but feel a lot of the hype is from people who want to feel intellectual rather than understanding what is fantastic about reading...enjoyment!
