After reading this book I discovered that it was the second in a series, the first of which I hadn't read (and don't intend to). It's about an injured WWI soldier who works for the intelligence services following his rehabilitation. During his treatment and new line of work he comes across a variety of interesting characters. The book is well written generally, but lacked a spark to make me care for the main character or anything that happened. It was okay, nothing more.
