McNaught's first foray into mystery/thriller territory, and opposed to some romance authors who attempt this switch (I'm raising my eyebrow at YOU, Jude Deveraux), McNaught does it with aplomb. The same talent that works so well to build emotions in the romance genre she turns to the creation of suspense in this crime drama, and doesn't back off of the sex scene (true, there's only one, but it's a good one) to do it. I appreciate both her talent, humor, and the fact that she doesn't leave her long-time romance fans completely in the dark with this genre switch. And Douglas and Courtney Maitland are excellent secondary characters - their breakfast scene with Noah and Sloan had me giggling out loud, even on the second reading.
