Book on all the mammals that currently live in Britain, native and non-native, with the exception of man and the dartoor ponies. Gives a little bit of information about all of them, their historic situation (especially where its interesting or historically important, or the creature is controversial or dying) he also gives an overview of their physiology which is always interesting - just look at the stoat or the hedgehog and try not to be fascinated. The last chapter (extinct and mythical beasts) is fairly useless, and made up mostly of quotes from harting, but the rest of the book, especially on the new arrivals are really interesting. No quotes because I'm reading the physical book, but I especially liked his arguments against culling badgers (and those he quoted), his ideas of otter preservation and the description of the common seal.
