I thoroughly enjoyed the humor of this book! I think that I read A Long Way from Chicago on a bad day, because I don't remember enjoying it this much. The grandmother has an unforgettable character! I'm curious to see what else Richard Peck has written.
This was the most gripping of the series to me. I totally couldn't put it down!
One word, man...INTENSE. p.s. I would've rated it higher, but all the angst made me intensely sad and every step of the way, I kept thinking of the torment between Kelsey and Ren...grrrr...and my real rating is 4.5 :)
I read this long before I really started taking an interest in insects, and even though at that point I didn't know much beyond ladybugs, cicadas and praying mantises, I read it cover to cover and thoroughly enjoyed it. With such a huge subject he doesn't even attempt to be comprehensive, just discusses very common insects you are likely to see in any given season. I learned so much. It was a joy to read.
