Although I found it interesting, I enjoyed “Girl With a Pearl Earring” more about the painter Vermeer. This book was about the English poet, painter and printmaker William Blake, but he was not an integral part of the story. Instead, it centered on poverty-stricken Maggie, a young girl who manages to survive not only her surroundings but also her sadistic brother and opportunistic father by her own quick wit and good heart. So while I enjoyed the story and the information about 18th century London, I was hoping to learn more about Blake. The story takes place during the French Revolution, and Blake is portrayed as a sympathizer to that cause, though again, that’s not central to the story. The book is an intriguing read, though not an ultimately satisfying one.
New York, USA - This love story set in New York is an enjoyable read and a good beach book. "He was a hunk in a way an eight year old just couldn't appreciate."
