If you like to read about rednecks, drug addicts, racists, rape, oppression, child abuse and the like, then you will love Knockemstiff. If you can't stomach these this, then you might want to avoid this book. For me, it was like a bad accident, I just couldn't take my eyes off of it, no matter what I saw. Knockemstiff, Ohio is not a place for the faint-hearted. I know if I was driving through Knockemstiff, I wouldn't even want to stop for gas. I cannot recall one good thing that happened to someone in this book. The stories are about people in Knockemstiff and are primarily centered around sex and getting the next fix, whether it be bactine or hallucinogenics. This book was completely shocker for me, but my husband read only the first few pages and couldn't wait to delve into it. There is definitely a pretty slim target market for this book, in my opinion. I could not stomach Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy, but I believe anyone who has finished that will enjoy Knockemstiff.
