Great book to have on your shelf.
Two from twelve...now one sixth into 'A Dance to the Music of Time," Powell's multi-novel saga. In this one, Nick Jenkins starts his adult life while still unformed. Once again, central characters weave into the story in seemingly random fashion and others filter out for the moment, just as life goes. Throughout, Powell maintains a bemused and amused take on those characters' passions and pretensions. And he offers pithy commentary on the entire process: '…[C:]ertain acquaintances remain firmly fixed within this or that person’s particular orbit; a law which seems to lead inexorably to the conclusion that the often repeated saying that people can choose their friends is true only in a most limited degree.'
